My Job Offer

A couple days ago my friend of 15 years offered me a job I couldn't refuse; to work in Costa Rica. It doesn't pay much, but the benefits pushed me to the affirmative. Free place to live, all the food and drink I can fit into my 5' frame, and a scooter for me to travel around town on.

His statement about imagining waking up and picking fresh bananas and papayas from my bedroom window for breakfast and surfing the clean waters of the pacific seemed to have tempered my fears of the many thieves that frequent his place and neighborhood and his analogy of Costa Rica being like the Wild, Wild, West...well at least where he, and soon to be me, reside.

I may be crazy to move to a county where many of the police have no forms of transportation to answer any distress calls and where most people get some kind of skin sores with a translated name of 'dirty blood', where there are salt water gators and/or fresh water sharks and snakes that can kill or mame you in seconds. But I have to go because when I have asked many of my well traveled friends their most memorable and favorite place they have visited in all the world 9 out of 10 exclaim Costa Rica without hesitation. So... 'gulp'... I need to go and see for myself what all the fuss is about.

So in a couple weeks I will be traveling there for what I suspect to become the most life affirming adventure of my small-town life.

In this blog I hope to record this path of my life along with all that I learn about Costa Rica; its people, the government, day-to-day life, entertainment, food, hospitals, wildlife, doing business in the land, etc. Please write me if you have any questions or would like to know more about anything Costa Rican.
